Ok, I need help. I have a friend's Celebrity boat with 350 Magnum Alpha One Gen II drive. It overheated on him a few weeks ago. We were talking and I agreed to take a look at it. I found the water circulation pump shot, impeller completely gone, as in spun on hub, and the water pickup tubes burned through and melted. The flappers are also shot. Compression was 182-195 across all cylinders. I bought all of the parts and reassembled it, and it ran great on the muffs, temp was about 140-150 max. Took it to the water and left it idling for a while. Everything looked good. I pulled out of the no wake zone and opened it up. Ran about a 1/2 mile, temp at 205, alarm activated and smoke from the exhaust rubbers was present. I looked in the bay and water was filling the bilge. I made it back to the dock and temp didn't get any higher but the bilge couldn't keep up and the boat nearly sunk before I could make it back to beach it. Now I am totally disgusted with the boat. The owner is upset I have spent 300.00 in parts and the boat is exactly the same as it was. I am upset I have spent about 10 hours, 300 dollars and who knows how much fuel going to get parts.
I need help on where to go from here. I am completely flustered. I can't figure out where the water is coming from or why it is still overheating in the lake.

Not to sound like a simpleton but, is the thermostat opening and closing when it should? Personally, when mine overheated I just removed the thermostat. Boat runs cooler at all times now but no worries of a thermostat rusting shut.

Somethings missing in the story. it ran good on muffs and there was no water leaking then you go to the lake, put in in and start it, and nothings leaking.
Go to power up . watch the temp climb to 205 before you thought it was getting hot (175)and you burn the exaust couplings from lack of water and the boat fills with lake water.
Core plugs popped, burned hose, hose fell off something??????????????????????? Plan on replacing the shift cable if it was near the exaust Y pipe too.

Sorry to have not gotten back to finish this story.
You are the MAN though! Once I got the boat back on the trailer and back at the house where the fan was, (good gosh it was hot that day!), I found one of the small cooling hoses off. The clamp was loose and the hose must have blown off when I powered up. I was running it wide open to test it and all was good until the gauge went up. It ran to 205. Put the hose back on, checked everything out again and took it back out to the lake. Ran for 2.5 hours and ran it HARD! with the owner. He is ecstatic. He now feels like he has a boat he and his family can have fun on. I will be doing a few more things at the conclusion of the season for him, but I think overall, he has a good solid boat now.

What is up with this forum? Everytime I try to post it gives me an error and then hangs up, only to post it after I try again. Wound up with a triple tap!
