I have a 350 OMC in my bayliner, and for some reason it is overheating. I have checked the water pump for the coolant flow and I have checked the flow on the sea water side and both seem great but when I slow down to come back in the harbor, it starts to creep up to a level of over 230 and blows a lot of coolant out of the overflow bottle.

Is there a better or larger heat exchanger that anyone would reccomend? or is this a common problem that someone can pin point as I think that this is a new problem to me. the engine is good, heads are good and the timing is spot on so i am not sure where the heat is coming from. I am tempted to take the thermostat out and se if that effects it.

Any help would be great to get me in the right direction.

whereas a thermostat is cheap money, and an easy fix, any time you ever have an overheating issue, starting with replacing that is a good idea. a heat exchanger will cost far more. good luck!
