Have a 351 Cleveland in a Supra which runs fine and starts ok when cold. After running for a while I shut it off and if I try to restart it it won't even turn over or click or nothing until it cools off. The temp guage doesn't show it as being hot. Is there some kind of sensor that could be failing and causing a safety interlock?
The starter has been checked and replaced. No difference.
thanks.

There is no power getting to the starter. It acts like there is some kind of interlock device in the circuit.

Could be a neutral safety switch. Or a bad start solenoid.
Either one will cause no power to the starter.

A bad ignition switch could also cause the problem, but usually it's not associated with a warm engine.

Just throwing this out. Had a truck that did that, ended up being the windings in the starter. Some insulation due to age failed and when hot no start.

When the engine is hot, The starter does not even turn over or click or anything. Replaced the starter, ignition switch and solenoid with no change in symptoms. That is why I thought that there might be a heat related safety sensor that is locking out power to the starter.
When this happens, you can short across the starter terminals and it will roll over and start.

Like Don S mentioned, pay attention to the neutral safety switch.. If your trans is a Borg/Warner 71 or 72-c, you'll find the neutral safety switch on the starboard side of the transmission.. That's the only other device that would interrupt the circut..
