hello i have 77 american skier with 351w. when you have water hose connected to it without tstat it is running @ 180...too hot. when it is put in the water it pegs out within 2 minutes. i have changed the following parts raw water pick up impeller, checked the manifolds and the risers for obstruction, had the timing checked, carb. set, main water pump removed and impeller checked looked normal. removed and replaced all hoses with marine grade. so i am basicly clueless and am in desperatly in need of some more knowledgable help!

I noticed that you did not say anything about checking the circulating pump, it could contribute to this. Also, do you normally run without a tstat?? I have only had experience with 2 inboards, but in both cases, removing the tstats resulted in rising temp.

Re: 351w runnig hot

Thank you for the reply! I have replaced the main engine pump. Do you know if there is a diff.in automotive temp. sending units ranges VS. marine? i have heard conflicting stories so i have a marine style ordered. The style guage is a TELEFLEX and the boat dealership here has not been very helpful!!! . We shot the block with a temp. laser and the reading was @ 135 degrees F.What do you think? thank you again!!!
