i did not recieve keys to the boat i purchased, it has a magneto 6 point ignition switch and im wondering how to bypass it to get the motor running and perhaps even keep it running. when we jump it from the starter it turns over like a dream but we are getting no spark. coils seem fine, points are set, but no spark. any tips would be appreciated!

Will connecting 12V from the Batt to the ignition marked wire at the wiring ID panel on the eng complete the hot wiring and allow the engine to run? I feel I have done this bypassing a bad switch but would like for someone to confirm this before it is tried. My 1970 35 HP Chrysler does not have a kill switch other than the ignition.

There are pics on my mag sys at the link below. Plus, there are many others of the 35 HP Chrysler if you search wickware in the forum?s search window. Hopefully, the title of the post will help you see the attachment of interest. Otherwise, ask for specific attachments and I?ll try to find or re-attach. I d/n monitor PM (private messages) unless I am told one is sent. I try to look at this board daily related to learning/sharing mainly on 70s 35?55 HP Chryslers (since the 35 HP is my only personal exp.

Iboat might have the parts you need. I was lucky to find my few mag parts needs in 84 locally and I boat on an impeller about 09.

If you have magneto ignition, simply disconnect the two brown wires that come out from thunder the flywheel and connect to the blue and white terminals. Insulate them with tape. You will need to choke the engine to stop it.

If you have coils on the outside of the engine block, take a cheap single pole switch and run a jumper through it from red to blue. Now with the switch on there will be power to the coils and with the switch off, the engine will stop.

In either case you will need to manually choke the engine for cold starting.

Buy a new ignition switch right here at iboats store for about 18 bucks. It is way easier than putzing around with jury rigged switches.

Did the temporary bypass work to allow the eng to run? I have used a bypass during quick testing with alligator connectors and wire test leads. The quick bypass has saved me from purchasing a switch. In this case you know you will need a switch and it will be your safest option. I have heard of sources vs marine suppliers but my best matches/quality have been through marine suppliers IMO. Safety Is #1 !!
