i can get the starter spinning, ran for a bit, now no spark. can anyone point me to a wireing diagram or suggest which wire needs juice to spark?

If you are referring to 12V from the battery none of the wires require it (except the starting system of course). However the starter must turn the motor over at least 300 RPM to start it.
