35hp fuel filter

Okay, I have a 1958 johnson 35hp, the fuel pump bowl (a little glass bowl on the fuel pump with a screen in it) on it has had sediment in it for a while. So, I took the bowl off and find that the screen is shot. Ripped up and basically junk. So I guess I need info on where I can get that screen and how to attach it. The place where it goes has a round thing down in the hole that seems to either be pressed on or something cause it sure doesn't look like you can get a tool around it. I hope someone knows what I mean cause I sure don't. The model # is RDS20, and serial # 1811343. Thanks, if you need more info I'll try to explain further.

Hi, Jay.<br /><br />Your engine is a 1958.<br /><br />You can order parts from a Johnson dealer or NAPA Auto Parts Store.<br /><br />I would leave the screen out and put an inline filter in my fuel hose or, better yet, a water seperating filter between the tank and the engine.<br /><br />Good luck.

If I could ask you guys another question... I just took my carb apart on the same motor and the outer layer on the float is basically crumbling apart. Do you have a website where I can get that? I doubt NAPA would carry that, or would they? thanks, oh and I already put a filter in the line, so that is taken care of.

No, the aftermarket carb kit for your engine does not come with a float. The OEM one does though. The only place I know where you can get one other than a Johnny/Rude dealer is here, #439074. Double check with him that it has the float, I'm not 100% on it. <br /><br />Good luck with that '58!
