35hp Merc broken apart water pump impeller pieces

Just repaired broken impeller, but was told that the pieces need to be removed/checked throughout line. Got all from lower unit area, but could pieces be stuck in upper area? If so, if I check by running engine could I cause more damage (other than obvious over heating)? How do I know full stream is flowing through pee-pee hole?<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Fred

Hi Fred,<br /> Not necessary if you can piece the original waterpump together like a puzzle. If all the pieces are accounted for, then you're good to go... Assuming that the previous servicings all removed all the pieces, too....<br />- Scott
