I just bought a pontoon boat with a long shaft 35hp outboard. I think it is a seaking by the symbol of the King Neptune fork and crown. I am not sure though. All the symbols are gone, so this is why I am not sure. Could somebody please tell me if I am correct in assuming this and also a good site with info on what exactly I have if it is a seaking. Where would I find the serial number on this old engine? Also why is SeaKing not listed in the forums? I appreciate the help....Grandpa wants it done so he can go fishing.
Thanks,
Robert

Re: 35hp sea king

Hi Robert
Sea king is a brand name used by Montgomery Ward. Over the years Wards and many other retailers sold outboards made by other companies. OMC's Gale div produced many of these motors as did Chrysler, Merc, Scott-Atwater and many more. We will need a model # to identify your motor. Look on the transome clamps for a tag. Also remove the bonnet and look for a tag in the starboard front corner of the lower cowl.(WHAT?) If your motor is a Seaking the model # may start with VWB or GG. The reason SeaKings do not hat there own slot on the board is because they are listed under Others- Sears etc. This title works for me, maybe it is confusing to others. Maybe we should suggest changing it to Privite Brands or something. Anyway get back with the number, and we'll figure out what you have. Please respond to this post, If one of the moderators doesn't feel it is in the right slot it may get moved. Now if your Seaking proves out to be made by Chrysler then we are in the right spot. Yea!

Re: 35hp sea king

I at least have a clue now where to look for that serial #. All that I could find under the cover was that it was a 35horse. This motor looks as though it has gone through the bail wire and tape routine a few times, half sanded with homemade linkage. It runs ok, but I want it back to where it is suppose to be with no quick fixes from the past. Anyways thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I will be back with what I can find.
Thanks again,
Robert
