Hi all, I‘m new to the forum. Hopefully someone will be able to help.
Last year blew my 5.7 2bbl inboard. I bought a 383 bravo stroker off Craigslist. Serial plate is missing. Supposed to be a rebuilt motor. The ecm says 6.2L Bravo. The air cleaner cover has the 383 sticker and it has the scorpion roller rockers. I was given the receipt for the rebuild. So I didn’t know everthing was different going from Bravo to an inboard. Different... brackets, flywheel, starter, harness and ecm. What a headache!!!!
So I got all the parts and sent out the ecm to be flashed to my application. From 383mpi stroker rwc bravo to 383 mpi stroker inboard with closed cooling. Engine will crank but won’t start. I get oil pressure while cranking. Fuel pump primes. 43 psi at the rail. I am getting spark. The injectors are not firing. I verified this using a noid light. I have 12v at the injectors. All injectors at about 12 ohms. Using exterior tester all injectors fire and pressure drop is about even. Engine fires and dies after manual injector test. Then just cranks and cranks. Figure it must be from the fuel in the manifold.
I bought techmate pro scanner.
Scanner reads:
Pcm system info
383 SXP
Ecm#. See decal
Cal# 8m2005192
AAAF_0008_383_EFI
The only fault codes are for fuel level, sea temp, and pitot. I tried to do the injector test. The test starts, injectors click 3 or 4 times the the test aborts a 2%. I get the message pcm hardware fault or other hardware fault.
Does 383 SXP mean anything to anyone?
I contacted the company that I sent the ecm to to have it reflashed. Apparently they send the ecm out to a third party. After some back and forth the programmer said it sounded like the cam sensor is bad. I said I don’t think my engine uses a cam sensor, there is no plug. Henassured me it does. I asked What specific application my computer was flashed too. The programmer responded it is written on the computer. There no engine model written on the computer.
The info from the computer reads:
MY2003P3AAAF
8M2005192.
So that wasn’t much help.
Apparently they don’t test the ecm befor they program them. I thought the pcm must be bad. Sent it out to be tested. Ecm was opened up and inspected, no hardware problems found. During testing the tech said he was getting both spark and injector pulse with just a crank sensor. However when he tried to do the injector test he has similar results. He gets error message Ecm received a failed response from injector. He is using mercury g3 scanner. He said never encountered this before. Said he thought it must be bad programming. Got it back today and plan on re installing ecm tomorrow and do more testing.
Does anyone have the most current service manual #36? In the wiring Diagrams with 10 pin harness, what is the inboard harness number listed that uses a cam sensor? I have the 2006 printing and the only harness that uses a cam sensor is 84-865455A03. Can’t find any info on this harness.
Any ideas what it could be the issue?
