I'm looking at one of these today (1997) to replace my '97 merc 25 which was beat to hell before i bought it.

I'm mainly worried about the weight, since my current is 2 cyl and 118 (I think) lbs, while this is going to be like 150 or 160 I think. I have a 95ish lund rebel adventure 14. im worried about the weight on the transom. Anybody have any thoughts?

Also, the motor I'm looking at doesn't have a prop. Googling around, as usual, I get a few different opinions on the prop to use on this motor. If anybody has any thoughts (or the Product# for the stock one), let me know. :)

If anybody has any other thoughts on this motor in general, I'd be happy to hear them.

Thanks!

A very well designed motor.---But heavy as you say.--Has a miniature ( shorter ) version of the 70 hp crankshaft with the same main bearings as a 70 hp.--They run very well too.---The oil mixing unit should have been taken off years ago.---Fairly expensive ignition module too.

They are heavier then the twin but your boat should be able to handle the wait with no issues. The triple will troll and run quieter than a comparable twin. They are a very smooth engine and great for fishing boat. You want to make sure the oil tank has been removed from the engine. It is under the cowl so you will have to lift it off to verify. Run the engine on 50:1 pre-mix. The power-packs are the other issue with these engines has Racerone pointed they are expensive.

I've heard nothing but good things about them myself. Very smooth and reliable bya ll accounts. Probably what I'll get next when the ol' 20hp eventually bites the dust. I like that many of them come in factory white paintjob too. The 3-cyl, 2-stroke Yamis are also very desirable motors in my neck of the woods as well, particularly the tiller models.

Dang good motor after you took the oiling system off of it and ran 50:1 premix.
