I am trying to jump on cooperative weather to spread some 5200 in my drain hole to deal the sleeve. My concern is, once I apply, if it rains will it ruin the application? I know the package says "water activated" but I haven't used it before, and once I open it I have read it will completely dry out useless in the tube within 48 hours. I want to maximize the timing here, and make sure of course that seal is TIGHT!

Also, the 5-7 day cure time...does that mean I should not submerge for 5-7 days??

thanks a ton guys!

Do it! It'll be fine. It'll cure in a week.

For clarification..you can install the fitting with 5200 and put it in the water the same day.

In fact..you can get scuba gear on and replace a through hull fitting with 5200 In the water .. :) .

Just posting to make sure you understood the above posts correctly ..

sweetness. Thanks guys.
I am going to do it tomorrow. I wish I had a smaller container of 5200 though. It will be a shame to waste all of the excess. I read somewhere you can freeze it after use and thaw later?

Na..dont worry about it. Just throw it in your " boat repair " kit. Let the tip seal .. when you need some more just poke a hole/slit in the tip end of the tube and squeeze out what you need. Each time moving the hole a little further down.

5200 is a sealant..not a caulk .. so you dont need that little spout ;) .

I do not think I know anyone with a vacuum sealer. I guess it makes sense only the portion that gets air would harden, or the tubes would all be useless from the factory to our houses.
As always, I appreciate the help.
