3m marine blister

hi everyone i"m new on this site and i have been doing a lot serching and reading on gelcoat repair

i have seen marine blister used for repairs then gelcoat on after but someone told me that i could use a fiberglass bondo is this simmilar product to the marine blister?

Also i'm wandering if you can see the fiberglass does that mean water will leak in ?

1. The 3m Product is a better resin, but costs more than it should.

2. Yes and No. If the gel coat has been chipped away and you can see glass, then the laminate "may" absorb water if the boat is kept in the water and it is possible after a long period of time that it may create some issues. Just seeing glass doesn't mean the boat will leak though.

so i could use fiberglass bondo.
can i use it to fill screw holes or should i look at something like marine tex
also any advice on spraying on the jelcoat vs wiping it on?

For above the water line use the Bondo product should work OK, that is if the product you're talking about says "marine use" on the label.

For below the water line I can't make say how well it hold up long term if the boat is kept in the water for extended periods of time.

Spraying gel coat gives a smoother, easier to sand surface, but if you don't have the equipment it will cost far less to brush it on, it'll just be a little more work.

if i spray it on i reduce the gelcoat with acitone iirc

so do does that mean that i should still cover the spot with tape or somthing for a proper cure ?
