4.3 2 bbl mercruiser distributor question - what is this? (picture inside)

Hi all - what is this for on the distributor? It looks like a vacuum hose is missing, maybe for timing advance or something?...or is it supposed to be that way? Thanks

That's the way it should be. It's just a vent.

OK thanks wrench - its running a little rough so just wanted to make sure...next step fuel filter, fuel vent/valve, then carb

The distributor cap has an original look to it, might be time for new one. May want to pull it off and have a look inside.

It appears you probably have a TKS carburetor? What year is the engine... 2004+.
