4.3 cobra no spark from coil

well i ll start by saying my son hooked the battery up back wards on 4.3 cobra he turned the key nothing so i started checking fuses 20 amp in ine was blown so replaced found a 50 amp that was blown replaced now the motor turns over but there is now spark coming form the coil so went and but new coil cap rotor points condensor plugs and wires set the points to spec tried it still nothing motor turns over but there is no spark i tried to locate an external resister with my luck unable to find one i do have a purple /red wire that i read is a ignition resistor wire 20 gauge only and then there is a purple/black that is spliced together that says it is ignition resister bypass the wires dont look burnt /melted but could that the problem or could it be the altenator im at my wits end and cant look at my son with out getting angry so if some one could shed some light for me it would be apreciated

Have you checked if you're getting a good spark at the points? If you don't have good spark there, everything down the line suffers.
