4.3 fuel starvation

I have a 1996 Wellcraft Excel 19SX with a 4.3 Mercruiser/ Alpha 1 with a factory/original elec fuel pump. About two weeks ago, the engine in this boat began an intermittent series of stalls (stopped running as if starved for fuel). The engine would always crank immediately after the stall only to stall again under power or throttle demand.

I didn't need to post my problem.....the answer was already in a previous post.

Thanks to Don for his no-nonsense approach to the many problems posted on this forum. On Aug. 7, 2010 he posted an elec. schematic of the power source that runs my elec fuel pump which led me straight to the leaking and faulty oil pressure cutoff switch. I jumped the switch for troubleshooting and the stalling was gone! New switch is on order. Problem solved!!!

So, my experience says.....post ALL of the information on your malfunction and then listen (read). There are several Gurus on this forum like Don bending an ear toward your plea.

Thanks again, Don. You saved me a ton of troubleshooting time.

Re: 4.3 fuel starvation

Would you mind directing me to the thread from Don? I am having the EXACT same problem with my '89 Cobalt 4.3 Merc. I notice my oil pressure is higher than what it is normally, and my engine eventually sputters, backfires (with increased throttle input) and eventually shuts off only to start back up immediately, but only to shut off again.

thanks
