The trim pump on my 2000 4.3L GL Volvo Penta started acting up. At first it either didn't run or would growl more than usual and run slow. I topped up the fluid (was at Min) to the Max level and it sounds a bit better and runs a bit faster.
There is a 10A fuse right on the unit that never blows but about 1/4 of the time when I use the trim while the engine is idling the 50A breaker on the motor trips out.
When the trim pump is run my dash board seems to dim. I have a Perfect Pass and if sometimes re-boots. It has done that in the past when the voltage was too low (less than 10 Vdc). My son the electrical engineer has suggested replacing the trim motor but other threads have said that is > $800
Any ideas?
