4.3 gxi-e "impulse limiter"?

Can anyone tell me what the "impulse limiter's" function is? It is connected to a hose that goes to top of fuel cell reservoir. Other end goes to intake manifold. It looks like a check valve but it's not called that.

I'm out on the water and do not have access to the efi manual. Googling around did not turn up much.

I am also curious if this could be a path for excess fuel consumption if it were defective?

Its a one way valve which allows fumes to be pulled out of fuel pump housing, and stops any back fire going other way. If fuel pump tank gets full of fuel it will suck out the excess instead of letting it maybe leak out
