Our mechanic says the seawater pump bearing on our port engine is noisy, the casing is getting very hot and he recommends replacement (although he changed the impeller?).
Is this a job a reasonably competent DIYer can do? I have the schematics but can't see exactly how it bolts on to the engine.
Also, there are two parts listed for the pump on the 4.3 and it seems there's an option. The VP diagram says P/N 3812693 replaced the older one. I've found other sites which seem to indicate that P/N 21214599 will also fit and I can find these cheaper. Are they interchangeable? What's the difference?

Why make life harder for myself? I can't access the Volvo Penta store from Australia (probably in a vain attempt to protect their local dealers from embarassment - think 50% more) but I assume that P/n 212.... Isn't a direct replacement?
