I have a 91 Thompson 260L Fisherman Hardtop, equipped with twin 4.3 Mercruiser's, My question is what RPM range is good for these motors. Generally run anywhere from 2-6 miles and then set up for fishing from there, may sometimes run up to 10 miles, generally 3800 rpm puts me at about 24 mph, and keeps me on plane pretty nicely, I am on Lake Michigan, so speed normally isn't an issue because we don't get that many days when it's flat enough to go much faster. But I seem to get alot of different opinions on where I can run these motors. W.O.T is 4400-4800, thats on the spec tag on spark arrestor housing but that seems kind of high to me. Any opinions would be appreciated, Would really like to hear from someone with this set up and see what they are running. Thanks Much !!

Lots of people have 4.3 engines, try and prop to the top of the rev range. No, that's not too high. I have my WOT at 5,000 rpm, and it runs very sweetly.

Chris...........

Re: 4.3 I/O Merc's

I have twin 4.3LX's on a 29' 1994 Larson & run a reasonably quick cruise at 3800-4100 and top out around 4900. It's a step-hull & does not like to stay on plane below 3000-3200. I don't have trim tabs, but they would probably help that...
