I am looking to buy a i/o boat for my first boat i have found one cheap($1000.00) but the engine is apart. It froze and busted . person who has the boat bought another 4.3 liter and took it to a gm dealer and they tore it down and its apart. my question is will a auto engine with marine componets fit in this boat. Will a 3.0 liter marine engine fit the boat.
Thanks for you time
Larry Choate

Re: 4.3 liter marine engine

The engine block is the same as long as you build it up with all marine parts including the brass freeze plugs. If a 4.3L came out then I would stay with 4.3L, the 3.0L will probably have a different mount setup than the 4.3L and you probably do not want to go there. Just build the automotive block with marine parts.

Re: 4.3 liter marine engine

Thanks everybody for your info on 4.3 liter I called a co worker about boat and he advised me that it might be costly to rebuild 4.3. Then asked me if i would consider an older boat he owned for sale. I bought a 1977 18 ft Caravelle boat & trailer tri hull with open bow ,interior pretty fair I/O with 120hp chevy, power trim that other than good cleaning is ready for the water for $800.00 I am not familiar with a Caravelle boat. Please give me your opinion of the purchase hope to take it to river this weekend Thank again Larry Choate
