It's not weldable, you need an engine. You have internal cracks also.

The Oil Fill is on the Valve Cover,.......

Regardless,.....

Don's Right,...... It's Not Weldable.......

At the Very Least,.... You need a Replacement Block,....
And, for the amount of Labor involved,...
A Replacement Engine will make Better Sense......

Just be sure to go back in with another engine of the Same Vintage......There have been Many Changes to the 4.3l over the years.....

Sorry, but that's not going to happen.

You're going to have to give a lot more information to answer that.
What "Couple of Holes" would be different, What year blocks, both old and the new one? Is it the same block as you have now? Year etc.?

As Don has just said,........ Welding up the Cracks is NOT an Option,...... Period.........

And,.......
As I said before,.......
IF you match the Vintage of the old motor,........
The New Block WILL have All the Holes in the Right Places..........

Ditto, replace it.

If you shop around you can find the pre-vortec 4.3's fairly innexpensive.
