4.3 Mercruiser TKS serial #1A629281 would start, and run on the muffs, but out on the lake out of the no wake zone you give it throttle it would die, and not restart.I have checked the coil, and now it is not getting fire to the plugs,is this a distributor or timing issue?

Probably a lower shift cable issue

As Scott says, a lower shift cable. What may be happening is the cable problem is causing the shift interrupt switch to be triggered and not coming back. Have a look in the Mercruiser information in the "Adults Only" section at the top of the forum... There's very good explanation of how the systems works. Failing that, have a look at my explanation of the Thunderbolt ignition system and run through the troubleshooting chart.

Did you check that the interrupt switch wasn't closed? (disconnect it from the system)
Did you disconnect the tacho feed wire?

Got my part put it on, and the boat started and ran on the muffs, but when I pulled up to the boat ramp it didn't start, and hasn't since! Going to run through the check again.
