I have a 2001 Marada with a 4.3 liter Mercruiser engine. I recently had it in the shop to have the<br />ICM replaced and when I got it home I notice that the trim is not working properly. It will trim down but not up. The only way to trim it up it to trailer it up. Also the trim guage indicator is not working properly. I noticed that there are some black wires near the ICM module that are no longer connected. I called the guy at the shop to ask about them and he told me that they were ground wires that didn't need to be connected, I know that those wires were not there when I took it in and have no idea where they go. Where should I start first.

Not much of one, that is why I am not taking it back there, he already soaked me for enough money the first time. I traced one of the wires directly to the block and it is a ground but the other one goes into a wiring bundle. Not sure where to go from there.

rdr22, It is likely that the trim switch on your outdrive is not working or disconnected. Likewise with the trim guage sender. Both are located on the tilt pivot bolts of my Alpha 1 outdrive. These are wired through the outdrive transom plate to the trim pump and trim guage, respectively. The wires look like lamp cord (black, flat with two connectors).

Re: 4.3 Mercruiser Trim Problem

I found the problem, the wires to the trim switch were not making a good connection. I took the connector apart and cleaned it and all is well. Thanks to all that responded.
