4.3 mercruiser w/2 barrel runs bad after 30 min

I have a 92 mercruiser 4.3 with a 2 barrel carb. It runs excellent when i first get on the water then after about 30 min it starts to bog down and does not have any power. I was pulling a tube and the tuber said he could smell a lot of fuel. Is this a carb. related issue?

Is there an easy way to check the choke with it idling with earmuffs on?
