Hey all I just picked up a brand new bayliner with the 4.3l mpi. Seems rpms are much higher than they should be but the boat seems fine. One suggestion on another forum was the settings on the tach. My tach has 1,2,3,4,5,6 and it's set on #2. Any ideas if this is the correct setting or not? It's the last thing to try before hauling it to the dealer.

Its "brand new" and you want to fix it instead of letting the dealer do it. If you touch it then the dealer doesn't have to, you may have broke it.

That said it depends on the manufacture, each can be different

I had a feeling that's the responce I would get. If it's somthing that simple it's well worth my time as its much more time consuming to trailer the boat 100 miles to the dealer and be without the boat for however long it takes. Haven't touched anything yet, just looked at its current setting.

Ya know you might even be able to call the dealer and they will tell you over the phone, just maybe

Most likely it's going to need to be set at 3 for 6 cylinders while 4 = 8 cylinders.

Your engine idle should be anywhere between 540 -600 RPM. Also within reasonable theory, your boat speed may almost match your RPM. Example 30 MPH while trimmed up a little on the stern drive should be right around 3000 RPM.

The vast majority of what I have read says the same thing, but I can't seem to find anything concrete.

Im waiting on the dealer to confirm but I wanted to post here in hopes of an quick/easy answer.

It seems like once im above idle its roughly 500-1000rpms above were it should be.

I appreciate the input and actually addressing my question instead of telling to go to the dealer.
