I recently bought a 1989 Forester 1800GT, with a 4.3L OMC cobra engine. When it runs out of the water it purrs like a kitten but under load it sometimes bogs. It will run great for awhile until u back off the throttle and then it doesn't want to get going again. Eventually it will hop out of the water and reach wide open speeds until u slow down the next time. My first possibility is water in the gas tank since the overflow vent is at the back of the boat the backwash might be entering into the gas tank. I had the carb cleaned and ran the tank almost empty. I also added some gas line anti freeze to it to absorb a little more. Changed the water/fuel seperator filter but no improvement. Changed all plugs. Wouldn't water in the tank make it run bad at an idle or in neutral as well? I have sparks at all plugs and good compresstion too. I am lost here please help.

details, condition of bottom, what rpms, was there water in the filter when you changed it? an engine can run just fine with the filter allmost completely filled with water till demand or chop or whatever stirs it up and mixes it with gas leaving ror the carb.

There was some water in the filter so I changed it..and have changed it once since and the last change there was very little. The bottom of the boat is very clean. I think it has to have something to do with when the engine is heated up.

Sounds like the accelarator pump may be starting to get weak or failing. That causes a huge hesitation when you open the throttle.

Bob
