I got a 4.3 OMC in my ski boat. It will not start. I have voltage through the starter circuit, going to the distributor but none coming out. I have replaced the ignition coil because it was bad and also the distributor cap and rotorary button. The guy that had it before me converted it over from points with a ignitor plate wiht the connection at the coil. Today when I put on the new dist. cap and turned the motor over it would not stop turning, i had to disconnect the battery to make it stop. plus still had no fire coming out from dist.. could my ignition switch be causing this HELP!!!!!!!!!

I don't quite understand what you mean by saying you had voltage going into the coil, but none coming out? Also can you tell us how your distributor and coil are wired? I have a wiring diagram of a 4.3 if you need it.

Sounds like either the key switch is bad or the starter solenoid is bad. Either of these would cause the "doesnt want to stop turning over problem"<br /><br />Ken

I may have mixed it up, I had voltage going into my distributor and none coming out. Also my ignition has been converted over to pertronix ignitor electronic ignition, the red wire is going to the battery side and the blacke wire is going to the distributo side.

I'm not exactly sure how you have stuff wired but heres how it should be: The black wire from the distributor goes to the negative ignition coil terminal, the red goes to the positive ignition coil terminal. If this is an pre-90's engine, there is a purple/red resistance wire that gets connected to the postive ignition coil terminal. Then a grey/black wire from the ESA gets connected to the negative ignition coil terminal. There is a wire from the starter to the positive ignition coil terminal, but i'm not sure of its color and it won't matter if this is an electronic ignition. In fact, it could be causing the starter run-on, so leave it disconnected (and taped off so it doesn't short out with anything)

Agree red to pos on coil and black to neg on coil. I had spark to coil but none coming out of my distributor to plugs. The Ingnitor failed and replaced it with and Ignitor II. Runs great now.
