I have a 4.3 Mercrusier and I may need a new temperature sensor. Is a automobile sensor the same as marine?

Mercruiser and most marine gauges use 240-33 ohm senders. I believe most auto gauges use a different ohm sender.

Re: 4.3 Temperature sensor

There are two temp. senders/sensors. One for the temp. gauge and the other for the ecm or over heat alarm. Engines with warning system, TBI. or MPI. Sender to me means temp gauge and Sensor means ecm or warning system. Temp sender one wire and temp. sensor has two wires. Temp sender is in ohm,s and temp sensor is in volts. VDO is the only gauge that uses different ohm's other than 33 to 240 ohm,s .

Re: 4.3 Temperature sensor

hello
most automotive sender/sensors dont work in marine applications, some may, just order the right one for your engine. napa carries the sierra line.
there are a couple different thread sizes. the two basic temp probes are sender/sensor and discrete switch. the sender/sensor sends changing information by varying a thermistor or variable resistance inside the sensor/sender. this gives ECU's and temp gauges the changeing current flow or variable voltage they need to operate. the discrte switch is on or off. its normally used in the alarm circuits.some of the newr ECM controled mercruisers are using a two wire sender. have you tested your old sender? they really dont go bad very often.
good luck and keep posting
