4.3 ticking sound

I recently bought a boat and installed a rebuilt 4.3 in it. Since I have had it on the water, there is a ticking sound coming from rear of the engine area. I have pulled the outdrive off and ran the engine and noise is still there. The noise hasn't got worse or anything it's just annoying because I know it's there. It ticks to the rpm of the engine. I have checked plug wires to see if they were arcing. Any ideas?

I bought it from a engine builder locally here in Jacksonville.

The ticking is probably a claps lifter. The builder probably used old used ones instead of new ones. What you can try is readjust the lifters, IF you know how, or ask the builder about the issue

It's not a lifter. It's coming from around the coupler area.

Exhaust shutters.... Very common. Once the revs get up, the noise goes away, right? Nothing wrong, and can't be 'fixed'... Ali boat?
