Does anyone know if those ridges on the metal 4.3 Volvo riser gaskets are supposed to crush or flatten when the riser is torqued down? Also, are the 4 long riser bolts supposed to be changed for new when replacing the gasket? Do they stretch or not do their job after several changes of gaskets? I had changed some and then had to re do the job and the gaskets didn't really change. They were torqued to 29lb

Thanks Bond-o. They weren't but will be flat when I pick them up from the machinist tomorrow. He's charging me $150 for both risers and manifolds which is a decent price I think.

Re: 4.3 volvo riser gaskets

I've used the riser bolts and number of times including with new risers no problems. According to the Volvo manual (AQ205) the bolts need to be tightened to 25 nm (18.5 lbf.ft) and locked in with Permatex or something similar, thought I've not done the last bit.
