For several reasons & a good one from Bond-O, Instead of rebuilding with new heads & intake, I'm going to install a new 2010 Engine with a 4 bbl Rochester, which is rated @ 220-235 hp
I have a Merc outdrive of 1:84 which is on 175-195 hp setups.
My question is should I be looking for a 1:64/1:61 outdrive that is on the 5.0L that turn 220 hp instead of the 1:81
etc,etc,etc...

Re: 4.3 Vortec

I dont think I would change the drive unless you have one laying around. You can prop out of the small bit of ratio. And as a bonus, alot of people buy really nice props that are to big (to much pitch) for their boat and thus they sell them cheap.
I would use what you have then see what happens, you can correct from there is needed.

Ayuh,... Rochester,..?? that carb ain't been used in years, 'n Years...

Merc uses the Merc/ Weber/ Edlebrock AFB Carter clone carbs....

My early 90s 4.3l, weber carbed is runnin' the ole 1.65:1 ratio...
About 20"s of pitch is right for My boat/ motor/ drive combo...
