Long term lurking as I’ve usually found my answer by searching.

Anyhow, I have a 1999 Chris Craft 190 Bowrider with a 4.3 Volvo Penta sx-m. Apparently, the previous owner had swapped in an early 90s 4.3 pre balance shaft engine. Engine had a cracked block and I replaced it. This turned into an ordeal because pre balanced shaft engine internals are compatible with the latter. I bought a 2003 Mercruiser 4.3 with a blown head gasket and rebuilt it.

Engine has been installed but need a little help with sensor connectors and sensors themselves. Looking at schematics, I’m missing the temp sensor which I think should go in the intake by cylinder 2 where I currently have a pipe plug. Not sure what the connector looks like. Also, the oil sensor and oil switch. I need there locations and what the connectors look like.

Any help would be appreciated. I do have the factory harness that I’m working with.

first, the 99 motor and the 03 motor would be identical at the base longblock level. from there, Mercruiser did their own thing and Volvo Penta did theirs. need to tear the Mercruiser motor down to a bare longblock and build up to a volvo penta motor

are you dealing with a carb motor or a marine EFI motor?

It’s a carburetor engine. Engine is back in the boat now. Of course I’m using all the Volvo specific exhaust risers, fuel pump, and all other stuff that was interchangeable. Basically I replaced the long block with the correct intake.

Searched some more on here and I think I found my answer. The brown wire is a one wire hookup for the water temperature sender. It is a loop connector that goes on the stud of the temp unit and tightened with a nut sitting on the intake at the number 2 cylinder. The oil sender is the same one wire connection and it is a blue wire. It is located in the rear of the block behind the intake on at the number 5 cylinder next to the distributor. My only issue now is finding the correct adapter for the oil sending unit.

Are you maybe needing to also think a little around the water pump difference too ? Between the merc 4.3 being usually fed from the drive and the VP 4.3 usually from an engine driven pump ?

I used all the accessories from the old engine. While I was at it I rebuilt the raw water pump with a new bearing, seal, and impeller.

What I’m running into now is the throttle linkage. Looks like I have a universal that has several holes marked with different engine sizes and either 2v or 4v. My cable was wired onto this with cable ties. Looking for the OEM retainer and clip if anybody has one laying around for sale.
