I have a 4.3GL-J VolvoPenta engine, 2009 Reinell 19’ Serial # 4012252889 Every time i go to start the engine with the muffs on it starts to smoke at the fuel pump diode connection. Lou C had mentioned checking to see if it is grounding somewhere. The wiring is wrapped in tape against the engine block. Is the best way to check this, by cutting thru the tape and seeing if it’s grounding somewhere? Or trying to find the other end and do a voltage test somehow? I’m lost. Not sure where to begin here. I’m guessing I need to find a wiring diagram of the where the wire goes. If anybody has any wiring diagrams I could try and figure out where it’s grounded. Is there a way to bypass this in anyway to get me up and going by the weekend? I’ve attached a few photos of the fuse box and the diode connection where it keeps smoking

I changed the fuel pump relay and it still blows. I found this on line. I also found a few things about changing out the cells in the diodes. Can these go bad? Is this true? If so is there a trick to getting these little things out? I read something online as well about the purple wire going to the solenoid on the left post. I dont have this purple wire exposed, I’m guessing it wrapped up in a sleeve with all the other wires. My wires all wrap to the same post the positive terminal goes to. I’m almost guessing a bad fuel pump.??!!Seems like the time for everything to take a dump on me.

Well I traced all of the wires and tested everything. Nothing is grounding out. Until I can afford a new fuel pump...which I’m guessing is the problem; I hope, I will post it on here if this fixes it. Thanks for all the help everyone!!
