Hi folks.

Hope you can help me with a minor problem. I am trying to ID the year of my 4.3GL (it was retrofitted on my '70 Bayliner Explorer). The Volvo Penta sticker on the head is blank. I have found a serial number on the rearward block, but the Volvo Penta website doesn't recognize it. Any suggestions?

Thanks much!

What's the number? That tag should also give the model number (and letters)

Hi Don.

The number I got from the rear of the block is: 14099090.

Thanks

Thanks Don.

I'll go and have another poke around. I have found the metal tag, but it's blank.

Re: 4.3GL Serial Number ID

Check out this link. According to the information in it, your engine is from 1996-1998. The number you found is GM's block casting number...you'll find it at the link in the last paragraph under "1995 With Balance Shaft"...

Thus, you should either have a 4.3GLNC (1996), a 4.3GLLK (1997) or a 4.3GLBY (1998)...

Re: 4.3GL Serial Number ID

Thank you very much!

That info actually gives me the data I require as those three years were very similar in HP/max RPMs/ etc.

I'm trying to properly match my prop to the hull speed & best RPM range for my old semi-displacement Bayliner.

Thanks everyone for your assistance.

I have a full set of the factory "LK" manuals (except the sterndrive manual - powerjet instead) so post or PM if you need anything from them...
