'90 Mercruiser 4.3l 2bb s/n: OC861086 in a SeaRay 200 BR. Often (not always) the engine will stall shifting from forward to neutral, or reverse to neutral. It seems if I move the control faster, then stalling is avoided. Movement of control seems smooth and easy to me. I do not notice any binding and the shifting itself is working great. Is there an adjustment that can be made to help with this so the engine interrupt switch is activated for a shorter period of time or is this a symptom of some other problem?

Thanks,

Jason

Re: 4.3L engine often stalls shifting into neutral from forward and reverse

Ping. Was out in the boat a few hours yesterday an this cut-out happened almost every time coming out of gear into neutral. Sometimes it happened when shifting from neutral into reverse--which was a new thing. 10th time I've had the boat in the water this season. I took a close look at the interrupt switch and it looks to be properly mounted, the switch arm matches up perfectly with the arm that moves it on the shift linkage. Electrically it is obviously fine. So, I'm wondering if I can adjust the shift cables to remove this problem (lots of threaded adjustment on ends of the cables) or are these symptoms of worn out cables that are beyond adjustment?

If adjustment is an option, I'd appreciate any tips/instructions you may have. Thank you, Jason

sounds like its time for a new lower shift cable, i dont think an adjustment is going to help you.
