The boat i'm not sure what brand. it is a friend's boat. 4.3L motor, GM I'm familiar with this motor, and very familiar with engine work.... in CARS. I can remove the engine just fine, except I'm not sure how the crank is coupled to the sterndrive... I've never done this with a boat before. also, this motor overheated he said. then shut off on the water. got towed in and hasn't run since. i can turn the crank pully by hand ( kind of hard to do) but only about an inch or so then it stops dead. same if you turn the key. looks great on the outside though... I just thought it'd be better off to lok inside this one before i go spend 300 on another to rebuild for him. I'd just like to know how you pull out a motor from a boat... move it forward then up?? help please, thank you much.

If the drive is still on the back of the boat, you have to have room enough to slide the motor forward to clear the splined driveshaft. You need about 6"<br /><br />Since you should align the motor when it's replaced, it's easier to just pull the outdrive now, since you'll have to later anyway. That pretty much allows you just to lift the motor straight up. <br /><br />Boats are easier than cars, as they basically just have a flywheel and a driveshaft coupler. Disconnect the gas/electric/hoses that are necessary, unbolt the mounts (usually 4) and up and out it goes. Pretty much can do it in an hour.
