Hi,
I have recently purchased a 1998 Sea Ray 190 with a 4.3L V6 Mercruiser Engine (Serial OK172312).
The outer ring of the harmonic balancer came apart from the main hub recently and wore two small holes in the timing cover.
I removed the pulley wheel and the harmonic balancer inner ring from the shaft. I also found the rubber that goes between the inner ring and the outer ring of the harmonic balancer. Upon inspection I noted that the rubbber and both rings of the harmonic balancer are in very good condition. I priced a new balancer and they are over ?300 (I'm living in Ireland).
I repaired the two small holes in the timing cover with chemical metal and that seems to have done the trick there.
In relation to the balancer I was planning to re-assemble the two rings and the rubber using a press and by gluing the rubber to both rings in the process. Has anyone ever done this or do you think it will work?
If i do manage to reassemble the balancer will my alignment be ok? I noticed a match line etched on the outer ring of the balancer but i did not see any marker on the timing cover to align it to.
Your comments and advice would be greatly appreciated
