4.3L OMC Cobra

Does anyone have any experience with this engine/outdrive? Good and bad.<br /><br />Thanks. Craig

I have had a cobra 4.3 since 1994 and have had very few problems... just the usual stuff... replaced a gimble bearing this year .. thats the only thing i have done out of the ordinary.. i also have a 22 year old that uses it all weekends and still it keeps on going...

Very reliable V-6 engine... The OMC Cobra had it's problems...but if maintained well, then you can expect good service at that end of the power train as well.

Recently bought a boat with an '89 4.3 OMC set up. Based on the condition of the boat I'd say maintennance has been mediocre at best.<br /><br />I've had the boat out 4 times doing a lot of shifting/starting/stopping (pulling wakeboarders), and couldn't be more satisfied at this point.<br /><br />Assuming you're considering buying a boat with the omc 4.3 -- Based on the info I've found on this site it is absolutely crucial to pay attention to how it feels when shifting into and out of gear. It should shift with very little effort - anything other than that is a bad sign.
