I got a 2001 stingray 180lx with the
4.3l. 190 horse power Volvo pentra.

Got it out of storage fired it up and to run fine. Took it out on the lake last weekend, it runs fine idling around but gets hot when you go on plane. I'm new to the inboard life. So not sure how the water flow works. And what I should be looking for. I also had a power steering leak but I think I repaired that with a new hose clamp.
Are there any parts diagrams or images that show for the water is flowing on these motors?

Also just for clarification I did run RV antifreeze thru before storage. And then pulled the drain plugs and blew air thru the hoses to get all water out.IMG_20210517_205836305.jpg

Looks like a 4 cyl 3.0 not a 6 cyl 4.3
In any case, has the raw water pump impeller been replaced?

You are right it is a 4 cylinder. I didn't even pay attention just went off what the listing was when I bought it. I took the impeller out tonight. The rubber seems flexible. But since I have it out I will get a new one. Looked to be a chunk of rubber in the housing pipe. Is this how the housing usually looks? They had a bunch of black rtv on it, and it almost looks like the pipes are rubbered on.

Is this normal in the housing pipe. Almost looks like silicone bubbles in each pipe

Looks to me as if there has been a leak at the "O" ring that seals the plastic nipple to the Brass pump body and someone's solution was to seal it with Silicone or something similar. Check that it does not leak and also make sure the pump body is not too worn. A new OEM impeller might work.Raw Water Pump diagram.jpgRaw Water pump text.jpg

There should be very little if any rtv. Where the impeller rides against the sides is the most important. There should be no groves

Place the thermostat in a pan of water on the stove with a thermometer. See if it opens and at what temp
