4.3l wide open trhottle lacking power.

I have a mercruiser alpha 1 with a 4.3l that I had replaced the engine with a long block of the same type. After new engine went in i noticed a drop in the top speed from the old motor. any suggestions for were to start to diagnosis the problem?

I think marine motors have a hotter cam for torque. did you use a truck motor or a marine.

came right from mercuisier. So would it be safe to say that it all is related? I know dumb question they just seem to happen independent of each other. This has been going on for a little longer. The other issue was just yesterday.
one other thought: Is there away that i could find out what the recommended gear ratio is for that motor and what the gear ratio is in my drive. I want to cross reference them to make sure that its not a gearing issue. Or is all standard you know you only get one choice of opts?
