4.5 Evinrude Stops Running After a Few Minutes

Hello again.

I went out to the beach this last weekend. Started my 4.5 hp kicker let it warm up and then got underway. Everything was normal with the engine but after about 5-10 minutes on my way out of the marina my 4.5 started losing power. I had to turn it up to full power to even make headway against the wind but shortly after it stopped running. I started it again but then promptly it quit again then would not start after that. I recently replaced the water pump and rebuilt the carb. The engine was pumping water appropriately.

Any idea what would cause this? I haven't tried to start it since Saturday. when i would run it while working on it, i would run it for about the same amount of time.

serveral possible, vent closed on gas tank. running hot. coil failing. carbs clogging. we only know you have a 4.5, what year, or model???

It is a 1981, I dont have the specific model number in front of me.

I'm planning on working on it this weekend. I'll do some experimentation to see if it is something simple.
