4.5 Mercury engine year /cooling

Serial number 4871403<br /><br />When I run the engine at idle just steam and a slight spray emits from the small water tube. At about 1/2 trottle a steady stream of water pumps out. Is this normal?

45 (4,5) 4869518 - 1978 1 cyl <br /><br />sounds like a weak water pump, not putting enough out at idle. Try putting you fingers on the top of the powerhead at idle and see if you can hold them there for a few seconds. If not, it's getting hot and you will know it. There should be no steam coming out..
