archie,

You won't find manuals for viewing for free, unless you find one at the local library. It's worth a shot to check that out.

The water pump is located in the foot of the motor about 4-5" above he centerline of the prop.

Water pump changes are not difficult, but each engine has its own idiosyncrosies.

Manuals are avialble on this page, lower left corner. You'll thank yourself later for having one.

Re: 4.5 mercury outboard

The last water pump I replaced i new where it was without any help or manual and i never replaced one before. warter pump or (rubber impella on my outboard)is located right by the vents that let warter in. I mean the vents that you place the hose to flush out the water and also lets the water in right above the prop. The one I replaced was just a rubber impella blade. But I imange that there might bee some different ways that have come about of making these water pumps on some engines.

Archie,
I have that motor also. Go to mercurypartsexpress.com :go to the area for parts enter your serial and model number. Then you can get parts list and diagrams for each area of your motor. I printed out each section and made my own parts manual. It's a big help. I have ordered the impeller from them and installed it.
Good luck,
Dennis
