I only use stainless, more durable and more speed and efficiency...

Sure, I'll comment...there are a lot of nice ones out there... Does that cover it?

I think you need to re-read your post and be far more specific.

Sorry. Didn't realize I had to spell everything out. Just looking for someone to suggest a brand of prop they think is the best. Can't find any "shoot out" threads anywhere.

Re: 4 blade prop

Best for what? I had a 21' Pro-Line with a 175 hp Johnson on a 30" setback bracket. Stern heavy as heck. I put on a Solas Titan HR 4-blade stainless. It helped lift the stern, and it cut several mph off my minimum planing speed. Smart Tabs completed the mods. The combination of the 2 transformed the boat.

I'm considering 4-blade props for my current boat, for the same reason. This time I need two, so I'll go with aluminum Rubex's and get most of the benefit at less than half the cost.

So I'll say it again... best for what? What are you trying to accomplish and what do you want to spend to do it?

I have an 18 ft celebrity with the 4.3 lx. I pull my kids tubing and we do wake boarding and skiing. Wanting more hole shot. Currently I have a 21p mirage and it is not enough on bottom.

Okay, good. Now maybe somebody can advise you. I don't do watersports and don't have an issue with hole shot, so what worked for me and my situation may not work for you.

Good luck!

Re: 4 blade prop

Have a glance at the powertech props website, they have a good range of four bladders each with a different advantage and spec. The rxb4 is a stainless steal that ive ordered for my boat that reveiws just sing the praise of...

Its boasts in many test results the best hole shot by far compared to others and the cup gives intense holding. Just note thou they measure up to roughly a pitch higher then there stated spec... Eg a 15p is more closely matched to that of a 16p in other blade makes, just there own specs id guess. I cant wait for mine to arrive :) also conside a hi five prop i would have had one of these but they dont produce it in a lowenough pitch for my requirment. Hope this helps

I have a 20ft Monterey with a 4.3 TKS and I put a 14x20 4 blade mercury Alpha 1 aluminum great for water sports and mid cruising gets on plane quick I lost some top end but no big deal. I eventually want a merc revolution SS 14x21 but its 550.00 and the season is winding down up here in the north country so next year I will try for it. Good luck my oem prop was a 14x23 3 blade not so good for water sports

Re: 4 blade prop

I really would have liked a stainless steel prop when I bought my 4-blade, but I just couldn't justify the expense. I also was looking for better holeshot for tubing/skiing, and the 4-bladed prop really does make a big difference. It also seems to help handling a low speeds (less wandering).

I bought a Michigan Wheel Vortex prop (20 pitch) here on iboats, and I think it's a great value.

What part of, "Everything" did you spell out. A very poor choice of words in a begging community that you find yourself in.

Everyone has their favored brand(s).

My two favored brands are Mercury/Quicksilver and Solas. Since performance is comparable, Solas gets the edge due to their more favorable price point.

For general recreational use, I recommend aluminum, since the slight performance advantage SS provides isn't worth the triple price.

Its durability is also its drawback. If you hit something solid with aluminum, the prop yields and absorbs the energy. Hit the same thing with SS, and the prop will come out fine. Your lower unit shaft on the other hand... (guess which is more expensive to replace.)

Re: 4 blade prop

Back in 1972 I had a Johnson 125 with the stock alum prop. Seemed I couldn't make an outing without dinging the prop. One time I saw what dinged it and it was a 2" sapling and I was idling at the time. OMC had just marketed their SST (Stainless Steel Teflon coated) prop. I bought it, never had another prop problem on the boat and have propped with SS ever since. Nar a problem dinging an engine due to the prop nor never had a prop back in the shop.

Now if I were still boating in Lake Austin, TX. where there are 30 ton boulders submerged just under the surface where you can't see them then yes I probably would run alum with a box of spares.
