I just switched from a duo lower unit to a single lower unit on my 22' Larson Hampton sport cruiser. The boat weighs 3300lbs dry. I plan on getting a four bladed stainless prop. What would be a good pitch? I want decent top end. Wouldnt mind getting her up to 40 mph but I don't want it to be a dog either. 305GM V8 230hp. I have trim tabs if that makes any difference on someone's opinion.

It is going to be a bit tricky, because generally, you base a new prop selection off of the existing prop. Since you are going dual to single, it is more of an unknown.

Do you recall what the pitch was on the duo setup?

My guess would be around 19" pitch for a 4 blade, but you will have to try some props.

Some propeller shops have demo props that you can try, otherwise, you could grab a prop off of eBay and resell it if it was not quite right.

I am friends with a marina owner around here and his place is on the water so, I could demo some of his props. I guess I was putting it out there to see what people thought. The Volvo Penta duo setups are not called out by pitch. My setup was a B6. There is B1-B8 I believe. They do it like that because both props are different pitches.
Running on the waters I do, can be costly with duo aluminum. I figure if I go 4 blade, I won't lose as much hole shot as if I went to a 3 blade.
The cost of my replacement lower unit($400) and the cost of a 4 blade SS prop ($350) is less than a Volvo Penta aluminum duo ($799).
