4 HP merc cooling

I'm new to forum, don't know how it works. Do I ask a question and get the answer/help via email? My questions (2) are, merc 4HP does not seem to have a discharge or (pee hole) from the water pump. I just purchased this old 77 motor and running it in a barrel. It does not seem to run too warm but I'd like a more positive answer. Also, there is a lever on the fromt that says cold, warm and has about 4 lines for adjustment but no linkage on inside of cover. Can someone send me a pix of what the link should look like so I can make one? Thanks, Doug Simpson

the serial # of the motor in question is 9174403
