i ran my 4 hp nissan/tohatsu 4 stroke out of gas (i had more ,i use the internal tank)so i refilled it with gas and it would not restart i had to row the boat a half mile to my dock and then it took a half of an hour of blasting starting fluid into the carb and pulling it through for it to finally get started and get the fuel pump primed. i pulled the fuel line that comes out of the fuel pump off and it was totally dry. so it took the fuel pump off and took it to my dealer he opened it up and said it was fine. so i put it back on and it ran fine. i ran out of gas again and was worried it would not restart but it fired back up with no problem. then i ran out again and i took a lot more starting fluid to get it going again. someone told me that you are no supposed to run these engine out of gas for the reason that they are hard to restart but i have been running it out of gas like this for years and it always fires right back up after a refill with maybe a bit of throttle and a few pulls. i am wondering if this is abnormal or if i have been lucky with getting it to restart for the last few years that i have owned the motor also i don't get how it could do it one time then not do it then do it again......maybe different throttle settings??..?....
