4 stroke or 2 stroke?

This is really going to sound like a dumb question but I'd like to know how can I tell if my engine is a 4 stroke or 2 stroke? it's a mercury 50hp outboard with thunderbolt ignition. it also has the number 4 on it and it is from about the late 60's early 70's.<br /><br />Thanks, I'm trying to figure out if I just use regular gas or if I have to mix gas with oil.<br /><br />Thanks again.<br />Ed.
