My 1994 4 Winns Horizon 210 with 5.8EFI, OMC Cobra outdrive, has been burning up alternator belts since I bought it a few years back. During acceleration, the belt squeals(it is slipping on the alternator pulley)and this slipping eventually burns and breaks the belt. The alternator checks fine at an alternator shop. I changed the alternator pulley with no luck. I put in a new alternator and it worked for about a year, but the problem has just recently started again. It only seems to do this in gear under acceleration and not just revving the engine in nuetral.

Not sure on your set-up but can you go with a double pully using two belts or maybe if your alternator is already pulled to the extreme try a size smaller .You may look at the "green belts" but it's only a guess as they are a heavy duty belt.

there should not be a heavier load on the alternator at rest or accelerating. but is there? have you noticed on the amp and/or volt gauge any extra load when you're accelerating?
